ST. CLAIR BEACH
OUT DOWN BY ABOUT sft OR MORE,
A SCENE OF DILAPIDATION AND RUIN. A tfw days ago we stated as a fact—and it was a fart—thai a week's experi<wo of the W.S.W. winds had not spoiled St. Clair Beerh. The position is now quit* altered. Heavy and high tides have cut out the sand in •thousands of tons. In front of iho Esplanade the stones st»vd bare. Abreast tho end of Fwbury road the steps hang in a drunken attitude on a slope- of isharp stones that one has to pick his way over before reaching the low level of sand. Same with the steps opposite the bathing shed. They cannot be used. To get ©n to the beach at all it is necessary to walk, ever so far east ward. The beach is a ruin. How long it will last tlvat -war nobody can lav Meanwhile the surf-bathers have to take risks to get to tho water and pat up with unpleasantness, and the whole front i» indescribably ugh". Peoplo are asking whether the Esplanade is attenuate com* pensation for all this havoo.
