SETURNED SOLDIERS' CHOIR

; enthusiasm in ; th« • latest activity of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers' Association was evidenced last evening at the Anzac Club, the usual weekly meeting of the choir taking the form of, a musical evening to introduce new members and to recreate the feeling of comradeship which was inborn during the great adventure in the world's war.

Mr Alfred Maitland occupied the chair, arid after welcoming now members explained that owing to the absence of their conductor, Mr W. Paget Gale, at CVnaiu, the committee had decided to hold this musical evening, and the attendance had fully warranted the step t-aken. He announced that a membership of well over 30 was now assured, and congratulated the choir on their successful inauguration. He also welcomed Mr C. A. Martin, the choir's pianist, and expressed to him the appreciation of the members at having his services. Mr George M. Smith, secretary of the choir, announced that several subscriptions to choir fund 3 had come in, and that the executive of the association had donated £lO 10s. The finances were thus assured ,and it was hoped that several citizens would also subscribe.to the funds." He announced that General Richardson had accepted the position of first patron of the choir.

The Chairman then .read the following telegram, which was greeted with ap-

plause:—"Regret cannot be present tonight; hope you., have very, successful evening.—Paget Gale." A varied programme of songs, duets,, recitations, and concerted items was then given by Messrs Lane, Morgan, Harvey, Luckhurst, Bennett, Dickel, Satterthwaite, Snell, Murray, M'Nish, and Maitland. Mr 0. A. Martin was .accompanist. Land also contributed several pianoforte selections.

It was announced that rehearsals would commence in earnest at the Anzac Club next Wednesday evening at 7.45, when all members and intending members are requested to be present. A delightful and successful evening closed with the National Anthem.
