o AMERICA'S GREAT FUND FOR DISABLED BRITISH MARINERS. An important movement, which will do much to cement a feeling of brotherhood between the United States and Great Britain, has been inaugurated on the other side of the Atlantic Americans the world ovor are being invited to subscribe to a fund organised byAmerica's Tribute to British Merchant Seamen, which is to b« devoted to the welfare of the' 3C,C00 men of the British merchant marine who were maimed and disabled daring the war. With the idea of making the movement better known among the Americans in thu country, Mr William H. Appleton, who is the chairman of the organisation, is visiting England, and will shortly address several public meetings in support of the project. Mr Appleton, who is one of New York's beet-known business men, has received a cablegram from President Wilson
saying that he is glad to have an opportunity to add his voice to the American Tribute to the British Merchant &amen and wishing the campaign every success In this country Mr Appleton has the cordial support of the American Ambassador, mr iiral A^ rd J* B Mr Havelock Wilson, M.I» and others interested in tho welfare of the Merchant Service. Through the different American Ambassadors thrcighout the world tho organisation are bringing to the notice of all Americans this opportunity to express - in practical form their gratitude to the men of the British Merchant Service. It is the aim oi Mr Appleton to raise at least £1,000,000 among Americans in this country. He is accompanied bv Mrs Appleton, who was an enthusiastic war worker in London for three years during the war, and received the Queen Alexandra tnsgnia for Red Cross work. They are staying at Claridge's Hotel, where American citizens who desire to help the movement should address their communications
