THE ELECTION CAMPAIGN
•Mr J. G. Price, the official Labor candidate for tho Nelson seat, opened his. campaign last night before a large audience. He outlined tho policy of the Labor Pavty,_ and was accorded a unanimous vote of coufidencu. Mr Hiram Hunter, Labor candidate for Christchurch- East, opened his campiii.au last night. _ He said the Eeform" and Liberal Parties represented privilege and monopoly. They were out for ths exploitation of the many, for the benefit oi' the few. They were out to exploit the Workers, and then dole out charity to tho .needy. There was nothing like Bolshevism in tho Labor Party's platform. The sooner the Labor Party got into . po.vr-r and established their own woollen mills for the .nanuf acture of tweeds, the better it would be for tho wor-ung man. Mr Hunter received a vote of thanks and confidence.
Mr C. J. Talbot .(Liberal) the sitting member, opened his campaign for- the Temuka r-sat at Temuk;. last night. Speaking of nationalisation, he said Voti and local shipping might be nationalised. The employers and employees should bo ■brought together to secure* their co-opera-tion. There was much need for improve ment in education, and mora money must be found for salaries to becure t'iie best men and women. As to land, he said that while the Government were subdividing on one hand, or the other individuals were aggregating. Tht> remedy was a steep and stiff graduated'tax and compulsory residence on pastoral int* More mciysirip? were needed, and a Minister of Industrie * to assist them. After all the soldiers had returned and settled, a cautious immigration policy would be required. Encouragement was needed by the wheat growers, and importation should be made unnecessary. A general revision of taxation was .necessary,
