WEST HARBOR COUNCIL

The ordinary meeting of the West Harbor Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers, Ravensbourne, last night, the Mayor (Mr H. E. Holler) in the chair; present—Cra Barker, Fraser, Mitchell, Robb, Ilarridg •. S'mith, Larnach, Robertson, M'Ewan, and Gooch.

Before the commencement of the evening’s business the Mayor made reference to the loss the borough had sustained through the death of two well-known and respected residents—Mr Oram Ball and Mrs Eeid. It was decided to write to the relatives expressing sympathy in their bereavement.

A letter was received from the Secretary of the Dunedin Hospital and Charitable Aid Board informing the council that a vacancy had been created on the board by the resignation of the Rev. F. Ct. Cumfning, and lequesting that the borough should communicate with the Dunedin City Council with the object of appointing n joint representative on the board.— Resolved that the council attend a meeting of the Dunedin City Council on Xov ember 12.

Mr J. M. Dickson, M.P., wrote in reply to the council’s request fur a reads grant of £209, informing the council that the matter had been brought under the notice of_ the Minister uf Public Works.—Received.

Mr A. Walter, M.P., also wrote, promising his assistance to the council in obtaining a monetary grant for the repairing of roads, which had been impaired by the heavy motor traffic during the curtailment of the train services.—Received.

Mr J. Buchan wrote requesting the use of a shed on the waterfront as a dressing shed for the Ravensbourno school children during the summer months.—The action of the Mayor in granting the request was endorsed.

The Secretary of the Otago Motor Club wrote acknowledging receipt of the council’s advice re danger sign at St. Leonards. —Received.

The Finance Committee’s report was adopted, and the Town Clerk was instructed to sue for unpaid rates. The Works Committee’s report was adopted, without discussion. Cr Harridge’s motion that the resolution passed at the last meeting of the council re the erection of lights in Seddon and West streets bo rescinded was lost on a show of hands.
