PIPE BAND

At the monthly meeting of the Dunedin Highland Pipe Band, held in the band room on Monday evening, it was decided to endeavor to have a pipe band contest, along with the brass bands, in March. Seeing that there are so many pipe bands in the South Island, and given good prize money so as to induce North Island bands to compete, there ought to be record entries.

It was reported that Drum-corporal Brown, who recently returned from the front, had given the band members two boxes of heather just received from the hills of Perthshire and the Black Isle in Bonnie Scotland, and which they wore in their Glengarries at the Hallowe’en concert on Saturday night. The gift was greatly appreciated by the members, who hoped that Corporal Brown would rejoin when he had had his holiday leave. It was stated that only one member (Sergeant J. Craig) had now to return out of 28 who went. Six had given their lives for their country.
