COMPETITIONS SOCIETY
At a meeting of the above society held last night, Mr J. Rennie presiding, it wa,s reported that a very aatisfactory entryhad been received for the various sections, giving- promise of very interesting competitions daring the season, which will commence in the Burns Hall to-morrow morning. The following judges have been appointed : —Mv.aio, Mr Victor Gaiway ; elocution, Mr VV. L. Paine (Melbourne) j Highland dancing, Mr W. M'Kenzie; fancy dancing, Miss Madeline Vyner (Inverca gill); fife and drum band section, Signo." Squarise; official accompanist, Mr Chas. A. Martin. Mrs F. Montague wroto stating that she would be unable to net as official accompanist this year, and it was resolved to prepare a special minute, expressing tho society's appreciation of I • long and faitnfnJ services, and tht appointment of Mrs Montague a life * .her oS the society, and to send her i .-.ociety's gold badge. The first nine- :a of the Festival will be held In the .'-urns Hall, and tho last seven days in iiw Majesty's Theatre.
As Mr Paine will not reach this City till to-morrow evening, the elocutionary items arranged for to-morrow forenoon will not bo taken till "xhursday forenoon.
