Mr Lawson has announced that the State Government are preparing an Anti-profiteering Bill. HOME-MADE ORDNANCE. SYDNEY, September 22. The Hon. L. E. Groom (Federal Minister of Works and Railways) has announced that heavy artillery and guns for the Aiibtralian navy will shortly be made at the State ironworks at Lithgow, N.S.W. BAKERS' STRIKE. SYDNEY, September 22. Responding to the bakers' decision, the pastrycooks' carters are balloting on the question of striking to-morrow. Tins move is intended to further curtail supplies of bread, although the masters are optimistic that they will be able to meet demands. PEACE LOAN HANGS FIRE. SYDNEY, September 23. (Received September 23, at 12.40 p.m.) The Peace Loan closes to day. Subscriptions to it are far behind the amount required, and, unless they come with a rush at the last minute, compukory action may have to be adopted.
