AN ENGLISH BOLSHEVIK
CHARGED WITH MAKING A VIOLENT SPEECH. A speech delivered at Croydon by an avowed ISokhevik from Leicester led to a charge under "Dora" against David Eamsav with having done certain "acts calculated to eavso' 'Sedition and disaffection." The speech was madfe at Croydon on January 26, when there _ were,, soldier* and sailors among the audience. Sir Arcliibakl Bodkin, who. prosecuted, said it was an open advocacy of revolution and violence. ' Ramsay said he was pi cud to call himself a Bolshevik, and asked hi» audience to emulate the example of their Russian and German comrades, ai.d not, to be too squeamish in the shedding of blood. Witnesses called by Ramsay said there v.-as "nothhis out of "the ordinary " in the speech, n-iid one of them declared that the audience seemed to want " 3omotiling hotter." The .Magistrate granted an adjournment i\j.' a week for further witnesses to be called for the defence, but made the condition that Ramsay took no part in propaganda in the interval.
