PROFIT-SHARING ILLUSTRATE©.

TO THK EDITOR. Sir, —A delightful illustration of the principle of profit-sharing is that afforded by the congregation of St. Andrew's in connection with the retirement of their honored pastor, an action to which your report of the Presbytery refers in the statement .that the congregation are making financial provision for one ■who has made spiritual provision for them. In that act of justice all will rejoice That profitsharing is entirely scriptural will be seen by a reference to Galatians, vi., 6, where we read : " Let those who -receive instruction in Christian truth go shares _ with their instructors in all temporal blessings " (' New Testament in Modem Speech'). Long ago PTofesßor Bircnie pointed) out this partnership of pastor and people. At the call of the Church the devote their strength to sacred studies and tasks, and in "the fruits of all their work their congregations ,are invited to ebare. The laity give themselves to the affairs of this life, and ai»a horjorabiy bound, in fair xedi* proeity, to rnadce their ministers full sharers with them in their gains. The poverty of the clergy is proverfeSal through the ■corrmon ignoring of the apostolic injunction to adopt the principle of profit-sharing. How few clergymen are to-day in receipt of any bonus or of any increase on pre-war salaries? The act of the St. Andrew's congregation is worthy of note, «nd of commendation for more general adoption.—l am, etc., T. M. Fisheb. July 3.
