HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS

A meeting of the Otago High School Old Bovs’ Association waa hold night, the president (Mr E. C. Reynold*) occupying the chair. The badness of the meeting was to consider a report from the executive regarding tho school war memorial and roll of honor, as instructed by a resolution carried at the annual meeting held in February. The Chairman stated 1 that the moating had been called together to confirm the resolution carried at tbo annual meeting in February. The memorial was to take the form of an arch designed l by Mr L. Coombs, to be erected cm the Arthur street side of the school, so that ail boys and visitors would have to pass through this arch to enter the school. Brass plates,' with the names inscribed thereon, of those who had “gone west’* would bo placed on the sides of the arch, and memorial tablets would also be erected inside the school. The cost of _ the proposed memorial would be anything from £1,200 to BI.SOO. Mr Reynolds then put the motion before the meeting. Mr Douglas Speckling seconded, and it was carried. t After the business of the society was concluded, a special general meeting of Old Bovs was 'bald to discuss the beet, moans of obtaining from tho Old Boys of the school the necessary amount to erect tho proposed memorial. Mr Reynold* again presided, and atalai that the previous meetinn had confirmed tiro resolution referred to above. The memorial was to bo erected by tho "boys'' .to tho "boy--;.” and- they did not wont outsiders contributing. Mr F. C- Campbell said that he thought they would have no difficulty in raising funds for this appeal. It wonkl Ik? a lasting memorial. Dr Fulton said that he. thought the chairman had made a mistake in stating that they did not want outside eabscriptious. There were the present boys to consider, also parents and .relatives of fallen hoys who would no doubt like to subscribe to the memorial plates. The Clum-man, in reply, said that this had, hem duly considered by the executive, and they had no objection to receive ■donations from the parents through the boys and from parents and relatives of the fallen hoys in those boys’ name*. It was decided to send circulars with covering notes to ail secretaries of *ho branch'societies throughout the Dominion. It was resolved that in the event of there being any surplus money (ho Did Boys’ Society call a meeting of contributors to disc use whal should be done with that surplus. Mr C. Morris moved- that the society endeavor to form committees in each of tho centres where a -society was not yet organised to forward the proposed memorial fund. —Carried. A circular, with various ci'srecticrus and additions, was considered satisfactory, and on a vote being taken it was decided to adopt this circular which was to bo sent out. Mr Morris moved that a printed list containing the names of those who hud fallen and those who had gone on active service be enclosed, and sent out with the circulars.—Carried.
