ST. CLAIR BEACH.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—lt of course is to be regretted that this beach is now spoiled j but what has happened should have been foreseen, .Nature teaches us that where there is a bluff, sand, beaches do not form. The esplanade acts as a bluff, and the rebound of the sea after striking it-washes the sand away. Sand banks form in bays where the sea runs up t-ill_ it loses its momentum, where it deposits the ea.nct that it has in suspension. To build a breakwater would bo a very business, and it is questionable if it would not all wash ashore during a southerly gale. The money would be better spent in driving piles and forming an esplanade by planking, which would allow the sea to deposit the sand instead of washing it away.— X am, etc., Sx. Clair: June 6.
