TUG DUNEDIN.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Tho tender of some £IO,OOO for installing a water tube boiler in this vessel must have been a staggerer to the Harbor Board, and should be an object lesson to the members. Had they taken tho advice of those who have gone through the very efficient school of experience, and sold tho tug a few months ago, when there was a good opportunity to dispose of her at a war price, they would have saved -themselves a lot of worry and the public many thousands of, pounds. It is a well-known fact that this boat is a complete failure as a harbor tug. She is, in fact, only a costly white elephant. I am of opinion that an ordinary Scotch type marine boiler should be installed and the tug sold without delay. The board should then wait their opportunity to purchase a plain, up-to-date, ordinary tug, which, I am sura, will be procurable in the near future, for about £16,000 —less than half tho cost of the Dunedin. Let there be no more amateur experimenting, with its inevitable result. —t am, etc., 0. F. Stjndstrum. May 3.
