A FAREWELL

TO MB C. B. NALDEK. The members of the legal profession, met in tins Otago Law Society’s Rooms in the Supreme Court. Buildings at 5 o’clock last evening to hid farewell to Mr C. 11- Nakler, District Land Registrar and .Registrar of Deeds, who has been promoted to the Christchurch office. Mr J. A. Cook (president of the society) occupied the chair, aud said they wished to convey to Mr Nalder the high appreciation and esteem in which ho was held by the members of the legal profession of Dunedin. Throughout the long period that Mr Nalder bad presided over the Land Registry they had all oomo in contact with him more or loss, and they appreciated the care and attention he had invariably bestowed upon their business, and also the patience and courtesy which he had shown them as individuals. Most of them, too, had to thank him for the ready and valuable assistance which he hod rendered them in removing some of the many difficulties incident to the administration of the Land Transfer Act. They also felt that in the administration of that Act Mr Nalder bad always endeavored to work up to the ideals of the author. They had to congratulate Mr Nalder on his promotion, and he was sure that every member of the profession hoped that ho would shortly rile to the head of bis department. (Applause.) Messrs Calvert and Mondy also spoke in appreciation of tho work of Mr Nalder. Mr

Mondy said that while not depreciating the work of the other registrars, he could' say that Mr Nalder for care aiid accuracy had not been surpassed by any other registrar. It had been a, pleasure to work with; such a genial and such an efficient officer, whose work really spoke for itself. Three cheers were then given for Mr Malder, who, in returning thanks, said that it was a quarter of ’a century ago since ‘he first started work in the Dunedin office. Any success he might have achieved as an officer of the department was largely due to the late Mr Turton, and also to Mr W.yiuks. who was so well known hero. Since taking charge eight years ago he had only carried oid, the traditions of the Land Transfer Office in Dunedin. He thanked them one and all for their kind remarks, and said he felt it an honor that eo many members of the profession should have attended to bid him farewell. He hoped to meet them all again some day. ■
