' The result of the Rnngitikoi election for the House of Representatives- was: Balance 112, Watt 105. Hutchinson 27. Tho Marten vote carried- the electron. ****-«*« At a meeting of the Dunedin shareholders of the Greymonth Coal Company the report of the directors was read and discussed, the opinion being expressed that it was not advisable to sink a new shaft, at an estimated cost of £5,000, until the railway had been laid to tho mine. Messrs Prosser, M’Gregor, Anderson, and Blair were appointed to take suca steps as they might consider necessary on behalf of tho Dunedin shareholders. Two candidates were nominated for the Waikouaitl seat in the General Assembly—viz.. Mr F. D. Rich and G. M’Lean. The poll resulted in Mr M‘Lean’s return. **■»**•»* Mr Lcwtber Broad. R.M., called to -the Bar at Nelson. Judge Gillies complimented him highly cm, his successful examination, and said no doubt he would prove an honor to the Bar. Previous to his departure from Waikouaiti the Rev. A. Dasent was presented with a purse of 55 sovereigns, the joint contributions of St. John’s Church, IVaikouaiti, and St. Mary’s, Palmerston.
