TWENTY MILLIONS FOR PENSIONS
In th first annual report of the British Minister of Pensions, which covers the work of the department to 31st March, 1918, some interesting figures are given. The total nu.mt>er of officers a-nct of tJae Navy aud Army pensioned for disability from the beginning of the war was 317,720. To widows the number of pensions granted was 128,401, and to children 247,792. Dependents, including parents and unmarried wives, were ■awarded 147,052 pensions. Nurses were S anted 165 pensions. In the year ended arch last the amount paid in pensions and gratuities was £19,206,000, fcho number of individual payments reaching l the substantial figure of 20A millions.
