EMPLOYEES’ DEMANDS FOR HOURSAND WAGES. [Special to the ‘Star.’] CHRISTCHURCH, April 30. A -union has been formed by employees at picture theatres and other theatres in Christdhuirdh. The union have been registered, and dlaims have been presented. 'l'he following hours of work and wages are j cusk-ed :—■ Emplovees sbal’l be at liberty to fix tKo "hour's of work for ail I employees, providiing the hours for each eniployoe shall not exceed 24 hours per week for ticket-sellers and: 56 hours for tickettakers. ~ . . The miniinram wage for trcket-seltexa shall be £2 per week, for ticket-takers £3 per week, for ushers £2 per week. A continuous picture is described as one in which a programme is shown more than once daily. The hours of work for night shows shall be as follows : For ticket-sellers —i&veniriig porformanooS;, 7 a..in. to 9.15 p.m. ; matinee performances, 1.46 p.m. 1 to 5,15 p.m. Ticket-takers, ushers, barrier men, packers—evening performance, j 7 p.m. to clearing of hou.se; matinee , performance, 1.45 p.m. to clearing of j house A night show shall mean any | entertainment commencing after 7 p.m. j The hoars of work for caretakers employed in all places of amusement shall not exceed 48 hours per week, and shall be arranged between such caretaker and Ins employer, provided that a caretaker shall not be required to work on any afternoon, and that ho shall be allowed at least one night of the week off duty (exclusive of Sunday). In computing hours of work all time worked on Sundays shall bo counted at double rates. The minimum wage fur caretakers shall bo £4 par week Should the theatres bo used for any purpose on a .Sunday the caretaker shall bo paid in addition to his weekly wages a further sunt of ,10s for each Sunday the theatre is usedTon days’ holiday on: full pay shall be allowed annually at a time convenient to the employer to each caretaker and pjermanent worker coming within the provisions of tiro award. All workers, except aa otherwise provided for in the .award, shall be paid for all time worked beyond tire hours prescribed in the clause at tire rate of Is 6d per hortr.
