(Received (May 1, at 8.45 a.m.) In the House of Commons (Mr Roberts, Food Minister, announced that the increased cost of food over that in July, 1914, for a workman’s family was 94 per cent, by April, 1917, 106 per cent, by November, 1917, 153 per cent, by November, 1918, and 113 per cent, by April, 1919. Dr Addison, President of the Local Government Hoard, said the local authorities were considering 998 housing schemes, embodying the construction of 140,000 houses.
