THE WAIHI MINERS : AN ABORTIVE MEETING. WAIHI, March 19. The mission here of Mr T. Marie Giles, Conciliation Commissioner, to adjust the -differences existing between the Miners’ Union and the men standing out of the union has in the main nob been successful. Mr Giles yesterday afternoon again interviewed the eight men with the object of inducing them to join tho uiiioii, the men having at a former inters lew promised to give the matter earnest consideration provided a mass meeting of the union was held and a truo statement of tho position laid before it. Tho meeting was held and the position made clear, and resulted m the president and tho secretary intimating that they would tender their resignations in consequence of "having withheld from tho previous union meetin© information that they and the rest of the delegates to the conference 'vit’i the Minister had agreed to the exemption of men who were standing <-ut’ U voa-wlay's iuteiview with the men the question was explained by Mr' Odes * but the men. with one exception, said they had definitely decided ui stand' bv their rigid- to be exempted,, and refused to join.
