OTAGO HUNT CLUB

The eighth annual meeting of the Otago 1 Hunt Club was held last night, the prosijdent (Mr B. S. Irwin) occupying tho j chair. | The annual report stated that tho ab- | scnce on active service of so many mern- | hers had made it difficult to carry on, but ! successful meets wore held at various I places. Hearty thanks were due to the j landowners over whose property the runs 1 were made, and for tho generous ho-pi--1 tality invariably extended by them. | Members were awaro that the totalisator i permit granted to the Otago Hunt had I been withheld for some time. However, the committee had applied for the permit for a race meeting to bo held at Wingatrd on July 5 next. As the application had been recommended by the president of tho Racing Conference, and as the Minister of Interna! Affair's was a warm | friend of hunt clubs, they felt assured the meeting would eventuate. The last race meeting was a pronounced financial success. The ranks were gradually being swelled by the return of the men from tho front. In moving tire adoption of tho report and balance-sheet, the Chairman said that | ho bad every hope that the meetings to |be held in the ensuing year would bo a ' success. Ho went on to say that a letIter had been received from the Minister lof Internal Affairs stating that a totalieator permit had been granted the club for 1 the race meeting in July. The balancesheet showed a credit of cash in hand of ,-023 18s 6d, and assets amounting to £IOO. They started, off the fresh season with, a good -credit in hand and a good pack. Mr It. Conn, in .speaking to the motion, said the Hunt Club had done very well during the year, and the way the interest had been maintained was wonderful.
