MASTER PAINTERS' CONFERENCE

At tho conference at Wellington of the Federation of Master Painters of New Zealand it was resolved: That tho incoming executive be bistro; ted to make an effort to arrange a uniform discount throughout New Zealand. the discount to be 25 per cent, to members of the association and 25 per cent, to the trade; no other discount to bo allowed. That this federation ask the support of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, the Town Planning Commission, and the Builders and Contractors’ Association of New Zealand to join u« in approaching the Health Department with a view to haring the future use of scrim in the Dominion made illegal. That it be a recommendation to the incoming executive to deal with the position of the proposed prohibition of the use of white lead, and that a letter be written by the executive to the Minister of Health, asking to be notified if anv action by Parliament is proposed. That this federation take every means to oppose the Painters’ Health Protection Bill, as being unnecessary and being against the interests of the painting trade. The conference pledged their members to reinstate all returned men in their formers positions and to give preference of employment to returned soldiers wherever possible. It was decided that the headquarters of the federation bo in Auckland lor tho ensuing year. ihe following officers were elected: President, Mr P. T. Birch ; vice-president, 1 Mr J. Bennett; aud : tor, Mr G. Bradshaw ; secretary, Mr W. Taylor; treasurer, Mr J. Hill; committee—Messrs Tapper, Glading, and Kirkin; Parliamentary Committee— Messrs T. A. Wells, W. Nicol, and G. K. Godber.
