WAKARI SCHOOL SHOW

SPLENDID DISPLAY OP FLOWERS AND VEGETABLES. : The fourth arirfftal flower, fruit, and '(retable show of the Wakari School was Id in the school hall on Saturday after>on and evening. The display was an •cellent one, and was fully up to the tindard of previous years. The show was ittended by large crowds, especially in he evening, ana good business was done / the sale of goods at the close of the air. The flowers, fruit, and vegetables -I'Hprted much credit on the scholars, .cachers, and The most noteworthy exhibit for competition was .mongst the potato growers, there being some very fine samples on view, all of which were grown in the district. Mr E. A. Hamel, who judged the vegetable class, expressed the opinion that the potatoes, mristing of 26 entries, were the best he id ever seen. He had difficulty in sort;r out the prize winners. The sweet peas ere also excellent. There "was mi view a fine variety of cut flowers, which were nrwarded by the Palmerston and Waiherao nrticultural Society, and also a collec--ton of double and single asters sent by Tr A. Williamson, of Roxburgh. These were greatly admired, and gained first ■wards. Mr D. Tannock had a fine dis- "■ of mixed flowers, and Mr S. Solomon ■ibnted a good all-round collection of lowers. - -■ children of the school had a splenihow of flowers, which were grown in j , school garden. It was most creditable, | showed that the little ones take the eenest interest in this department. In j -tt\e of the class rooms there was a par- i 'jcularly fine exhibition of_ white and rown bread, scones, and Mrs Mod had a first-class showing of biscuits, vhich was the only entry. The cakes, nes. and toffee made by the school eh f .n were really excellent, some of the iizes beine gained by boys. There was a collection of home-made jams r, n ..bition. Some very dainty fancy v exhibited by Mesdames R. Christie ; ( . Spiers, while Mias E. Wilson, a ...ec. teacher at the school, had a fine, i tempting collection of sweets of all [ .pds on view.
