NAURU ISLAND
HUGHES v. MASSEY. Frees Association—By Telegraph—Copyright, Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. PARIS, March 14. Mr A. J. Fraser, representative of the Australian Press Association, states that the question whether New Zealand shares with the Commonwealth the control of Nauru Island (Pleasant Island) is still unsolved. Its value lies in the phosphate deposits, and the agricultural requirements of both claimants make its joint use desirable. Mr Hughes insists on sole control by the Commonwealth, and mutual arrangement appears remote. It ia therefore possible that Britain may remove the cause of the heart-burnings by accepting the mandate herself.
