Torquay, which has hitherto prided Itself oh its title of Quean of Western Watering-places, may in future claim to be known as the Mecca of Honeymooaers, The town (says the London ‘ Star ’ of January 1) has been fixed on as the honeymoon centre of the returning New Zealand troops and their British 'brides. Couples are arriving by the score, and by mid-January the total will be near a thousand. Before tho discharge depot is closed down and the last draft sails for home, several thousand bridegrooms from l overseas will have formed their best and lasting memories of the Old Country through their stay in this beauty spot of Devon. Tho honeymooners are not confined to depot buildings or camps, but are billeted in little private houses. Now this invasion is not altogether viewed with favor by Torquay girls, for the newlymarried visitors have replaced the tide of eligible, free-spending, breezy and gallant you New Zealanders, the great majority care-free bachelors. Yet the Torquay girls have had a fair innings. About 13.000 New Zealanders have passed through Torquay, and hundreds of the girls of the town have married men of their choio and sailed for their new homes.
