When the American schooner C. S. Holmes was raising her anchor at B’nff recently, after undergoing a _period of quarantine following her arrival from >an Francisco, a largo anchor and several fathoms of cable were brought to the surface on one of the flukes. The anchor and cable, which wore taken possession of by the Customs authorities, were believed to be those lost by the barque Ganymede many years ago. . . , The - Union Company advise that Die Mokoia will leave Wellington to-morrow for Dunedin. She is expected to arrive here on Thursday. Tho Navua will leave Wellington tomorrow for Lyttelton. She will afterwards proceed "to Wellington and; Auckland. . . The Kini is expected to arrive here on Wednesday morning from Greymouth and Oamaru with a part cargo of coal. _ The Tallinn left Suva on Saturday night for .Auckland, where she is due on Wednesday morning. The vessel is bringing a full cargo of fruit for distribution to New Zealand ports.

SCHOONER ALERT BERTHED. The American four-masted schooner Alert, which arrived in the Lower Harbor on Friday night last from San Francisco. was towed up to Dunedin yesterday morning by the tug Plucky and taken to n discharging berth at, the Victoria wharf. The Alert left San Francisco on January 14. on which dav the schooner Planter sailed for Dunediii and the schooner Fearless cleared for Wellington. The Planter arrived here four days ahead of the Alert, Vint the Fearless has not yet reached her destination. The Alert had an uneventful and fine weather passage until she arrived off Moeraki on Wednesday morning last, when she was blown nearly 100 miles off the coast by a heavy, southerly. Under the influence of light,« variable winds, which followed Wednesday's blow, she made Otago Hoads on Friday afternoon. and was then towed to an anchorage ns stated above. The Alert, which made two trips to Sydnev frnrry America lart year is making her first visit to this port. Captain J. Hausen is in command, and his wife accompanies him. The vessel brought a full cargo of assorted oils and. a deck load of lumber, the latter totalling 500 OOOEt. After discharge she will proceed to. the islands to load copra for San Francisco.
