The controlling director of the Boyal Carl Kosa Company, Mr Alfred van Noorden, intend* to build an opera-house in the West End of London, to which, will be attached a complete “ nursery ’* and training school for composers, conductors, aing«ra, instrumentalists, stage managers, scene painters, etc. Should Mr van Noorden be successful in this undertaking, it will, in hu» own words, be the “crown” to his ■work of 20 yea n. A parson had prayed for rain, and eventually it rained in torrents. Standing in the porch, he bewailed the excessive downfall, whereupon his wile said mildly : “Bat you prayed for rain.” “Yee, my dear," replied the worthy man, “ but this is quite ridiculous."
