THE STRAND RIOT
Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON. March 10. An American Commission inquiring into Sunday’s riot of soldiers protests against the action of the Y.M.C.A. hut officials in summoning the civil police to disperse tho dice players instead, of the American military police. The 'Commission also complained that innocent onlookers were arrested, the actual players escaping. .Scotland Yard upholds the police action, and denies that the policemen lost their heads, using their truncheons violently and knocking down civilians like ninepins.^ American officers regret th© newspapers version, which attributes the blame solely to tho American soldiers, whereas photographs show that tho ringleaders were either English or colonial. It is denied that tho American military policemen brandished revolvers. One English and three Canadian soldiers appeared! at Bow Street charged with obstructing the police outside the police station when the crowd attempted to rescue tho Americans. Two were each fined £2, and the other two were remanded.
