A PROPHECY FULFILLED

Lady deso Vccux brings to mind in the ‘ Overseas Journal' a remarkable prophecy, nearly a hundred years old, which emanated from an old witch in Schleswig-Holstein, reseeding tho ex-Emperor of Germ any. It was foretold that a ruler would arise in Prussia who would become one of the mightiest potentates in the world. He would be the father of six sons and one daughter, and bs crippled iu one arm. His ambition would win for him unparalleled success, but before his death he would be able to assemble all his possessions under tho shade of a lime tree. Either this or a similar prophecy was mentioned long before the Groat War. The people of SchleswigHolstein appear to have built many hopes on this particular forecast. They hated the Kaiser with a bitterness exceeding the hatred of the French fur the Germans. Lady des Vccnx heard the prophecy talked of in the Kaiser's family, especially when, after the birth of the Kaiser's sixth sou, came a princess, whoso advent invested thin foretelling wdth completeness. Lady des Vobuk incidentally states that the Kaiser’s ■attitude towards his wife’s family was always a sore trial. On their part, they considered him to be a “ parvenu,” for, though poor, the Bchleswig-Holsteins among whom tie moved were a proud people, and they resented hia condescending ways towards them. But now the prophecy is fulfilled, and the grand “poseur" is a crownless monaroK, a fugitive, aad homeless.
