ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
Harold James, aged 11 years, while at tempting to leave a train at Petone last evening, missed his footing and fell between the rails. The train passed over him, and he was killed instantly. Tho lad had visited Wellington with a party of school children to see a picture of the German navy surrender, and was returning under the care of his school teachers. His parents reside at Petone. A. serious accident happened on the Hokitika railway and traffic bridge yesterday afternoon. When a train from Ross was approaching Hokitika, a car driven by Mrs W. J. Butler, with Mrs A. E. Gregory ns a passenger, met it head on. The train was fast pulling up when a collision appeared inevitable. Mrs Gregory jumped out, receiving a bad injury to her head, and hei right arm was badly crushed _ above the elbow, Mrs Butler, who remained in the car, was uninjured, the car being pushed back by the engine, and only the steering gear being damaged. The condition of Mrs Gregory is very serious.
