PREVENTION OF CRUELTY

A meeting of the committee of the Societv for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday afternoon, Mr G. Fenwick presiding. The first matter brought under the notice of the committee was the question as to infusing increased energy into the working of the- Southland branch. As an outcome of the discussion it wa*. decided that the chairman and secretary interview Mr F. W. Bicknell, of Invercargill, -when he visits Dunedin on March 18. Mr Craig, the society's inspector, presented his""report, and it was agreed that one cojjs—the shooting of a dog at Hooper's Inlet—be referred to a sub-committee. The question of electing a permanent secretary was considered, and it wa3 agreed to invite applications for the position. The acting secretary since the death of Mr T. S- GTaham has been Mr Sligo, on whose secretarial ability some complimentary comments were made.
