RAILWAY CONNECTION URGED. The Hon, T. M. Wilford, Minister of Marine, visited Westport on Saturday to attend tho seventh annual show of the Bui lor A. and P. Association. Ho delivered an address, in tho course of which ho frankly admitted that he was a North Islander converted to tho necessity for tho speedy completion of the Wos’tportReefton Railway. Tho Minister stated that while coming down the gorge ho was taken into a coal mino just off tho roadside, and had other data placed before him iu regard to coal measures In the gorge, and ho recognised that the completion of tho railway was a national necessity. The Parliamentary Industries Committee, who also made an inspection of tho mino in the Duller Gorge, and wore shown coal taken from a seam that dips right under the rock of the projected railway, had stated that it was n national crime that Westport was not linked up with that coalfield.
