Harrison, sentenced to six years’ imprisonment for the Ancona dip frauds, evidence was given that the accused was convicted at Wollongong for selling a valueless spray for fruit trees; that he had been fined for gambling; that he was now wanted for uttering forged notes; and that he was regarded as a confidence man. A Melbourne detective who twice raided the accused’s premises because of illegal gambling admitted that ho had large sums to his credit, that his books were kept excellently, and that as far he knew there had been no dishonesty over his gambling transactions. Mr Justice Husking said prisoner was a dangerous criminal. His good points had been alluded to, but good points in a criminal enabled him bettor to impose on the public by getting their confidence.
