Bates) supplied the following at noon to-day ;— Westerly winds, moderate to strong prevailing and freshening; the wear ther appears likely to be unsettled, with rain following; barometer falling again s;,-on; sea moderate swell; tides good on the coast. ARRIVED.—March 9. Kowhai, e.s. (7.15 a.m.), 792 tons, Dinsmoro, from Wellington. Pntiki, s.s. (8.25 p.m.), 422 tons, Robertson, from Wellington. Tho Kowhai arrived hero early yesterday morning from Wellington, with a full general cargo. After discharge she will proceed to Timaru, New Plymouth, and Greymouth. The Putiki, which arrived at Dunedin last night from Wellington with a full general cargo, will load nero for Timaru, Lyttelton, and Nelson. The barque Rona, now in quarantine at Sydney, will load there for Wellingon. Tho American schooner Irene has completed her discharging of case oil at Lyttelton, and was expected to put out in the stream on Saturday prior to leaving for the islands to load copra for America. The auxiliary schooner Huia arrived at Melbourne from Auckland on February 28, after a passage of 14 days. She loaded a cargo of explosives from the steamer Gilgnv at Melbourne, and sailed for Auckland last week. Overseas vessels moved outwards from Wellington on Thursday last as follow : Tho American schooner Georgette for Sun Francisco, and the steamer Essex in the afternoon for Port Said via a West Australian port. Signs of unruliness amongst the crew of the steamer Zealandia at Sydney on the night of Friday, February 21. compelled the captain to secure police assistance. Several members of the crew' demanded permission to go ashore, and when the request was refused they became unruly. When the water police arrived on board the men quietened down, and no action was necessary. The Zealandia left Sydney on the morning of February 22 for the United Kingdom via ports. The fares from Sydney to New Zealand have been increased by £2 2s for saloon and £1 Is for steerage passengers. Tho French steam collier Bellambi is in commission again, after undergoing extensive repairs, rendered necessary through stranding on tho coast of New Caledonia. She left on February 23 for Noumea, Commissioned by the British Admiralty to load grain, tho new “ war ” steamer War Pike, one of the many standard, vessels constructed during the war, has reached Melbourne. She will lift a full cargo of wheat for India.

Tho American steamer Annette Ralph, bound from Newcastle to Suva, which put into Sydney 7 on February 23 owing to a leaky boiler, was taken to Mint’s Dock for repairs. The work was expected to occupy a week. She is j expected to sail to-morrow for Westport, where she v.ill load coal for Napier and Gisborne. The Waipori arrived at Sydney on Friday last from Auckland, and was ordered into quarantine. When released she will go to Newcastle to load coal for WelIxngten. Tho Moeraki will leave Lyttelton this evening and Wellington to-morrow eveningfor Sydney. The Rakanoa left Westport at 3 a.m. yesterday, coal laden, for Auckland. The Koromiko left Newcastle on Saturday, bound for Lyttelton, with a full cargo of coal. ,

The barquontine I]ma arrived at Sydney on Saturday after a smart passage of 12 days from Auckland. Si© was ordered into quarantine. The Atua left Suva at 5.30 p-EQ- on Saturday for Auckland. She is bringing a quantity of fruit for Now Zealand, ana is due at the northern port on Wednesday. The Atua will afterwards proceed to Sydney. The weather was unsettled at Qrey 1 - mouth to-day, with strong south-westerly winds. A moderate sea was running on the bar. Westport reported fine weather and a smooth sea on the bar. WANAKA DUE TO-MORROW. The Union steamer Wtmaka, bound from Newcastle to Port Chalmers, passed .Bluff at 8 a.m. to-day. She is bringing a full cargo of coo.l, and should reach Port early to-morrow morning. The Wanaka’s future movements have not been definitely fixed. KAIAPOI PROM MELBOURNE. The Union Company’s steamer Keiapoi arrived at Bluff this morning from Melbourne, and was placed in quarantine fo r 24 hours in accordance with the regulations. She is expected to berth at Bluff to-morrow, and after discharging a quantity of cargo will come to Dunedin, The Kaiapoi has about 800 tons for discharge at this port. She will afterwards go to Lyttelton and Wellington'to .put out the balance of her freight. NAVUA FROM SAN FILIN CIS CO. The Navua arrived in the stream at Wellington at 6 a.m. to-day from San. Francisco via Papeee, and was placed in quarantine for 24 hours. _ She brought a largo shipment of American merchandise for distribution amongst Now Zealand ports. After discharge the Navua will ba withdrawn from tho ban Francisco trade, but her movements have not yet been definitely fixed. WIRELESS FROM WAIHORA. A wireless message received _ by the Union Company from the captain of tho Waihora states that the vessel will arrive at Bluff early to-morrow morning from Calcutta via Albany. As the vessel Ixlll be quarantined for 24 hours, she is not expected to reach Dunedin until about Friday. She will discharge 1,000 tons of Eastern merchandise here, and will then proceed to Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland to pnt out the balance. AUSTRALIC’S CHARTER CANCELLED. Advico received by the local agents for the Luckenbach Line states that the charter of the steamer Australio has been cancelled. and the vessel will not therefore load at Now York for Lyttelton and Dunedin. The agents have not yet received advico as to whether another steamer will take tho loading berth at the American port in place of the Australio, NIAGARA FROM VANCOUVER. Cable advice received by the Unkm Company states that the R.MJS. Niagara left Suva at 11.30 on Saturday night for Auckland in continuation of her voyage from Vancouver. She is due at the northern port on Wednesday morning, and as she will be placed in quarantine for 24 hours she will not be berthed until Thursday morning. The Niagara will afterwards proceed on to Sydney, and will return to Auckland in time to leave there on April 1 for Vancouver via porta. BADEN POWELL IN HEAVY WEATHER. The coastal steamer Baden Powell, • which loft Lyttelton on Friday, met with heavy weather and ran short of coaL All the wooden fittings available went into the furnaces, and the hatches were about to follow when tho weather improved, and she managed to make port yesterday. If the engines had stopped and tho vessel had broachod-to there might have been a disaster. NEW YORK -AUSTRALIAN TRADE. Advico has been received that the following large steamers have been fixed to load at Now York for Australian and Now Zealand ports The Tjikenbang, 8,013 tons register, left in February for Auckland, Wellington, Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide; the new American steamer Poughkeepsec. 9,000 tons, will follow the Tjikenba.nsr; the new steamer Gunston Hall, 9.400 tons, will follow, and would go on the loading berth about April 15 ; the French ship Almendral left New \ork on January 14 for Sydney and Melbourne via Panama Canal.
