SCALED PRISON WALL
MOTHER AIDS SDK'S ESCAPE. Henry Ernest Markham. alias Davenport, who escaped from Pontonville Prison while undergoing sentence for receiving jewels which had been stolen from Lady Rhonda's flat at Kensington, was recaptared at Tottenham, and was remanded at Clerkenwell Police Court on a charge of breaking from prison. It was stated that tho man had made four previous attempts to escape, and had been punished with the " cat." He escaped by means of strips of sheeting tied together in the form of a rope ladder, with which ho scaled the prison wall. Tho prisoner's mother was remanded with aiding and abetting her son to escape, and with burning his prison clothing.
