TAPANUI SCHOOL JUBILEE

The jubilee celebrations of the Tapanui State School yesterday were largely attended. The Acting Prime Minister (Sir Jamas Allen) was present, and among others who attended the function were the Hon. D. T. Fleming, M.L.C., Messrs A. S. Malcolm and R. Scott, M.P.s, Mr W. Eudey. and Mr J. Wallace (chairman of the O'tago Education Board). The celebrations commenced with a function in the school grounds, when a roll of honor of old boys who have taken part in the war was unveiled. Among the names were those of the following who gained decorations:—W. Tall, V.C. (one of a family of nine sons who all went to the war). Lieutenant-colonel D. Colquhoun, D.5.0., Sergeant-major D. Mackay, D.C.M., J. Bromlev, G. Chandler, and T. Hardy. R. Kintr, D. M'Pherson, and T. -M'Le'nnan, MilTtary Medallists, and O. King, who won the Croix de Guerre. _ A feature of the proceedings was a procession of pupils, present and past, the latter bearing banners to indicate in what years they attended the school. A few of the original pupils of 1868 were among the processionists. The flag which covered the roll of honor was lent by the Caversham School, to which it was presented by the Caversham School in England. Sir James Allen then addressed the gathering, and unveiled the roll of honor. Speeches were also given by Messrs Malcolm and Scott, Hon. D. *T. Fleming, Messrs Eudey and J. K. Menzias (former masters at the school). A concert was given in the evening at the Town Hall, when Sir James . Allen gave another address.
