The Congregational Union Conference at Auckland yesterday carried resolutions unanimously that, in, tho opinion of the conference church union was highly desirablo and should be seriously and .sympathetically considered.; also expressing cordial appreciation of the attitude regarding church union taken up by tho freshlyterian -Assembly, raid urging that the matter be referred to the individual churches, with a view to arriving at a defini'.e decision. It was Tosolved to appoint a committee to further the cause of unity and to take steps to receive tho decision of the churches by September 30. There was a large attendance on Thursday at the usual meeting of the St. Clair branch of the Otago Women's Patriotic Association, which this week took tho form of a farewell afternoon to Mrs Pope, one of the first members and most energetic workers of the branch,, for the. last 18 months has held the /office of president.
