Our Christchurch correspondent wires: Major Hugh Short and Airs Short passed through Christchurch yesterday on their way to Dunedin. They arriveef from England in the Ruahine, which reached Auckland early in the week. Major Short was attached’to the N.Z.M.C., and left with the main body. He was invalided from Gallipoli, and afterwards was appointed medical officer at Hornchurch. From there ho was promoted to tho position of senior medical officer at filing Camp. Since July, 1918, Alajor Short has been travelling "between the military hospitals in England, finally serving at Walton as specialist on diseases of the chest, and it is understood that he will bo placed in charge of similar work in the Dominion. Major Short left New Zealand as a bachelor, but married an English bride during his residence at Home.

At Havelock, on January 15, the Rev. F. jack (recently of South Dunedin, now Methodist minister in the northern town) and his wife were honored by a special social meeting. Mr W. H. Smith (chairman of the Town Board) presided, and amongst those present were a number of adherents of other denominations. Mr Smith referred to the courageous work carried out by both their guests during the trying influenza period. He had pleasure in handing to Mr Jack a sum of money subscribed by the townspeople as a token of the practical Christianity shown by himself and wife during the epidemic period. Mr Jack said that preaching sermons was only one of the side issues of his work. He hoped that his wife and himself would continue to be of practical benefit to the people amongst whom they had come. At the quarterly meeting of the Port Chalmers Old Identities’ Association; held last evening, it was reported that since last meeting the death had occurred of Mesdames Alice Watson, Mary Moir, Annie Bonner, and Alice Grainger, Messrs Samuel Gill and William Solomon.
