(Received September 23. at 9 a.m.) Mr Clynes, Food Controller, addressing a conference comprising 200 officials of labor organisations, explained that the further advance of 2d per lb in the price of meat was due to the shipping shortage shutting out Australian supplies, allowing only the importation of North American, meat, where the cost of production is higher than in Australasia.
