Mr Salrnond, a Free Church minister at Barry (Forfarshire), has been offered the Chair of Theology in the Otago University. Which produced this characteristic letter from the pen of Mr J. G. S. Grant : About a month ago I observed in the ‘ El.izin Courani,’ and also in the Edinburgh journals, a paragraph to the above effect. You have reproduced that paragraph. The ignorance of Home journals is excusable in respect_ to the existence of the Otago University, but provincial journals like the ‘ Star 1 ’ know full well that there is in reality no such University in existence. Moreover, the professorship in question is not for the so-called University, but for a qnasi-Divinitv Hall in connection with the Presbyterian Church of Otago. A Professorship of Theology is a very vague designation. What branch of theology is he to teach, or is he to be a Jack - o f-all - trad os and a master of none, like soma other professors in these colonies?
