RUGBY. SECONDARY SCHOOLS. The annual inter-college football tournament rvas opened at Wanganui yesterday, when Wanganui Collegiate School defeated Christ’s College by II points to 8. Tho play was fairly even all through. There was a large attendance, and the game was fast and exciting throughout. The second match in the triangular secondary schools tournament was played at Now Plymouth yesterday, when Auckland College and Grammar School defeated Nelson College by 22 points to 3. Auckland attacked for most of the gamo, but until the concluding 20 minutes the Nelson defence kept them at bay. the score reading 3 points all. Auckland then asserted their superiority, and scored five more tries, two being converted. O.R.F.U. Mr H. Harris presided over the weekly meeting of tho Otago Rugby Football Union held last evening. Permission was granted to the staffs of tho firms of Wright, Stephenson, and tho National Mortgage Company to plav a match at Carisbrook on August 29. Idle Coal Creek Football Club were also granted permission to hold a seven-aside tournament on September 21. A copy of a resolution passed at a meeting of the New Zealand Union was received. Southland and a schools’ representative match. —The secretary reported lhat he had wired that the date was unsuitable, and, suggesting September 11.—Resolved that (he secretary’s action be approved, and that the selectors bo asked to pick a team to play Southland.—The Southland Association had suggested - that the school team travel on Tuesday and the seniors on Wednesday. It was decided to play practice matches at Culling Park on August 31 and September 7 between the teams chosen to play for tho Brown Shield and the Southland matches respectively, the senior ‘' knock-out ’ ’ competition to be postponed meantime.
