Y.W.C.A. HOSTEL BAZAAR

Tho boarders have put in a lot of time, energy, and enthusiasm during the past few weeks in making and begging articles of all kinds, and they reaped splendid and deserved reward at their bazaar on Satur ; day afternoon and evening, the sum real- ' ised—about £62— being mnch beyond their expectations. A great deal of the credit for this ds due to the infectious zeal of the matron, Nurse Mowat: but all the girls worked strenuously. Mr James Barr, in opening the sale, said be liked the way in which the girls had taken the matter up, because it made for self-reli-ance, and this trait was an eueellent one in tho character of yo«4ig men and women. It gave independence a»d strength, and its possessors could always be relied upon to "get there," while the colorless individual was " waiting for something to turn up." Mr Barr wished the girls every success, and trusted that their object would be attained. .Nurse Mowat then presented Mrs Barr, the convener of the Hostel Oommitteo, with a pretty water color by Miss li. Salmond. This bazaar Is the initial effort in the big scheme, formulated and approved at the last animal meeting of the x.W.O-A_, for raising £5,000 for necessary improvements and extensions to the buildings, and i the sewing machines to be purchased with Saturday's receipts will soon be busy on a similar but more ambitious effort. Tho need is great, but the Punedin public never fail.
