CHRISTCHURCH, August 26. At a meeting of the Workers' Educational Association the Hon. G. W. Russell referred to the serious decline in the Dominion birth rate, which had fallen nearly 1 (?) per cent, in the last 30 years. This was particularly regrettablo when the accompanying increase in wealth and prosperity was considered. Legislative action wis imperative. The Wanganui Carpenters' Union forwarded the following resolution, to the Minister of Labor:—"This union view with disgust the action of the Arbitration Court in refusing an award to tho Auckland Soft Goods Employees' Union, We suggest to you that under Mr Justice Stringer the Arbitration Court lias become an adjunct to the Employers' Federation in a marked degree, and we i>one firmly of opinion that if tho ■workers aire to Teceive any justice whatever from the Court it is necessary that Mr Justice Stringer be immediately relied of his duties as Judge of the Arbitration Court."
