At the North Lyell 'mine, in the I,looft level, ore iirodue'tioii has been resumed from the No. 41 stone at the northern end. while the rich ore body of the Xu. 49 stopo is niHintainin;; its usual high grade and going up strung towards the I,oooft level above, whore it i= being beaten out on the third iloor at the I,oooft level. The bh' ore body of the No. 40 slope is heins; regularly exploited on the ground I'oor. where it- is showing a face of 80ft wide The ore, which is chaU opvrite in extremely hard quartxite, is at, present hardly averaging 6 per ceni., but material of a belter grade is known to exist a short dis tanco ahead, where hard quart;:ic rock is displaced by softer country. This off body is also being actively attacked on the first floor overhead. At the 925 ft level the north drive, after proving a big body of good ore, has entered poor material, and a- start will shortly be made with productive work here by opening out north and south from the Crown Lyell drive, which has proved nit ore body of approximately 901't in .a. westerly direction. The usual tonnage of ore is being won from the 950 ft and 700 ft levels. From July 1 regular returns are expected from the treatment plant at the Tasman and Crown Lyell Extended muios, Tasmania, which is now driven by waterwheels, and the chairman (Mr F. G. Fir.chett) stated at the half-yearly meeting of shareholders that, as no fuel would be required, and there would be a saving of labor, the directors were confident that- the mine could be rum at a profit.. The chairman also stated that steps were being taken to improve recoveries, and another factor that would assist to increase profits was the reduction of Sulphide Corporation's charges.
