SOUTH DUNEDIN LICENSING COMMITTEE

The ordinary meeting was held yesterday ; presents-Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M., and Messrs W. T. M'Farlane, P. Johnson, J. J. Marlmv. and E. H. Lough. Josoph Carter applied for a transfer of the license of the F.itzroy Hotel, Cargill road, to Emma- Ellen' Ash Hewitt. Mr W. L. Moore appeared for Mrs Hewitt.—Sub-inspector Mathcspn said that since the report was prepared Mrs Hewitt had been convicted of permitting drunkenness on the ..premises.—The Chairman said the committee understood that the barman was really responsible for the committing of the offence, and on the understanding that a change would be made, the transfer would be granted. The Chairman referred to the question of conveniences. At the annual meeting last June hotelkeepers were urged to keep these places properly flushed, and lie had reason to know that in some cases tho instructions of the committee were not being carried out. Tho committeo now intimated that constant flushing was absolutely necessary, and if it 'were not done further steps would be taken. With regard to the conveniences at the Ocea-n View Hotel, for the owner of wliich Mr Stephens appeared, the chairman announced that a new and more private place would, have to be provided, and a plan of the same submitted for the annual meeting in June. Mr Widdowson added that the whole question of conveniences would be gone into at the June meeting.
