Keplyine to a deputation from the Second Division League, Sir James Allen deniea that the Financial Assistance Board had asked; when tliev were considering applications for aid, whether a wife was working. He thought' Is 6d a day enough for a married' man at the front. He wanted them to believe that he was in earnest when he framed the regulations and created the'board. The scheme was introduced to try to do away with cases of hardship. He wanted them, to have confidence in the board. If it -Was proved that they were overworked he would make such alterations as were necessary. He could not promise to increase the number of the board, because by doing so anomalies would be created by varying decisions. He promised them that justice would be done.
