ST. KILDA PUBLIC LIBRARY
There .was a, large attendance at the annul! meeting of members of the St. Kilda Public Library last evening. Mr W. Thompson presided. ' , ; The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the annual report, said - progress was "till being made. The -library had fully justified itself, and was increasing in favor every weel*. The total number of volumes, now in use was close pn 800, and the shelving accommodation had had to be extended. Special thanks were due to Mr J G Robertson, who had presented some 50 volumes to-he library, and the hope was expressed that other residents might follow his good example. Members owed a lot to the honorary librarian (Mr R. W. Hall) who was ever willing to do all in his power to help the institution along. The chairmnn concluded by thanking the committee tor their support, making special reference to the activities of the lady members. Mr R. H. Cunningham seconded the motion, which was carried. The following officials wero elected : i atrons—Messrs T. K. Sidey, M.P., W. T. MFarlane, and C. N. Scurr; president, Mr W. Thompson; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Harris and A. Edgar; librarian, Mr R. W. Hall; secretary and treasurer, Mr R. H. Cunningham; auditor, Mr A. G. Heppolthwaite ; committee—Mesdames Walmsley, Hunter, Laing. Messrs Heppclthwaite, Hall, White, and Cunningham. _ Regret was expressed when the resignation of Mr W. B. Steel as hon. secretary and treasurer was announced, owing to pressure of other business. General acknowledgment was made of the good work done by him for several years. At the - conclusion of' the formal business the Chairman, on behalf of the subscribers, presented Mr Hall with a tanRible tokfin of the esteem in which he was held, referring at some little length to the invaluable services rendered by Mr Hall j in his capacity of librarian.
