FRENCH CHAMPAGNE SUCCESS.
LONDON, February 18. French communique : There is "violent artillery work in the region of Verdun. We repulsed an eriemy attack upon the positions which we captured on the 13th inst. at Butte du Mesnil. February 19. French communique :. A second "enemy attack in the afternoon on positions soutriwest of the Butte du Mesnil was broken by oiir fire before reaching our lines. The morning attack was made by three battalions. The enemy were everywhere repelled with heavy losses. Air activity continues. We dropped 15 tons_ of explosives in the Metz region, causing several fires and explosions.
