ELECTRIC BEDS
The first- electric heels .used in the war .zone lor the desperately wounded were. I believe, at La Panne, in the hospital of the Queen of the Belgians. since ‘ then their use has been increased, and really up-to-date field hospitals are furnished with a fed- of these wonderful inventions. Extreme cases brought in straight ham the battlefield to the 'field hospital might sometimes be saved could they only live to endure the necessary operation. Too often, however, the action of the heart is so weak as to be imperceptible, and in that- case little can bo done to save the mans life. Xow. however, the man is placed first and foremost- on the electric bed, which benignly warns him thvomzh and through. Xo pulse in a number of cases becomes some puke. The. heartbeats grow stronger, until the man is able to bear what is before him. .Patients who are- using these beds require, of course, the minutest attention lor two or three hours, but it- is little exageorntion to -say that the beds really do bring back the dead to life, and. in spite of technical'! difficulties, there is no doubt that their use will be widely extended.
