BEATING BRISBANE EXPRESS
MR BOYD EDKINS'S MOTOR RECORD. Mr Boyd Edkins, who holds the record for a motor trip from Melbourne to Sydney (16 hours 55 minutes), added another to his list when, on December 22, at .4.3 a.m., he reached the Sydney G.P.O. after a run from Brisbane ox 26.hours 3 minutes. The previous best time was 29 hours 38 minutes. The Brisbane limited express occupies 26 hours 40 minutes on the journey. Mr Edkins was accompanied by Mr W. Griffiths. When on the Friday afternoon it was announced by telegram that Mr Edkins was being delayed owing to repairs to the brake being necessary, it was 1 considered in the city that the attempt had been abandoned. . Leaving Brisbane at 2 a.m. on the Friday, the climb in the rain to Warwick (100 miles) was accomplished in time to leave there at 6.55. Glen Innes (239 miles) was left behind at 12.20 p.m., after a delay of 55 minutes due to a breakage and slight mechanical trouble. Armidale (302 miles) was passed at 2 p.m.. Tarnworth (375 miles) at '5.15, .Singleton (499 miles) at 9.50, and Wiseman's Ferry at 2.5 a.m. The distance is 637 miles. The record-breaker states that the roads were almost impassable in Queensland, and that he had great difficulty from Broke (516 miles) to 'Wiseman's Ferry, owing to continual trouble with the lighting- ' ■•...:
