WAR HONORS.

LONDON, January 8. Three hundred and fifty medals of the British Empire Order have been isuued, mostly to munition workers, many of them women, for courage in moments of the gravest danger from fires and explosions; also to a number of telephone girls for devotion to duty during air raids. Y.M.C.A. WAR WORK. The approval of the Minister of-Internal Affairs has been granted to the Y.M.C.A for their public appeal for fluids to assist in the maintenance of their service to Now Zealand soldiers. It is explained that 'there are urgent and increasing demands upon the funds of the association in connection with the service for the fighting forces of the Dominion, and that, in view of the present commitments alone, a special appeal to the public is imperative if the service is to be maintained over the coming winter at the front. A sum of £25,000 has just been. remitted to the London headquarters of the association to meet immediate requirements, and a cable message has been received from the New Zealand Honorary Commissioner in London urging additional work for tho troops. At a meeting of the National Committee of the association at Wellington, it was decided that the day of tie appeal, which has been fixed for March 15, should be known as the " Red Triangle Day." Organisation is to be proceeded -with immediately in all the centres. MAJOR NEWMAN WILSON. Major Newman Wilson, whose name appeared in the New Year honors list (Military Cross), is thj jctuge-.t son of Mr Robert Wilson, of Waimate. Major Wilson left with the Second Reinforcements and was attached to the Second (South Canterbury) Battalion, with the rank of lieutenant. During the Gallipoli campaign he was severely wounded, but speedily recovered and rejoined his regiment. He saw service both at the Somme ana at Messmes, and was wounded on each occasion. It was after the fighting at Messmes that he. was promoted to the rank ot major, in which capacity he is still serving in France. Before joining the .
